Jessica Hansen began acting at age 5. She was a cast member of a TV series on resisting peer pressure at 12. Ms Hansen has performed on stages across the country and in dozens of commercials and industrial training films.
Ms Hansen has performed Guest Star roles on NBC’s Parks & Recreation and HBO’s Veep, working with Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, respectively.
Ms Hansen co-founded and currently serves as Artistic Director of Lean & Hungry Theater, which creates audio adaptations of Shakespeare and other classics to support teachers and students in the classroom, and to make quality theatre accessible to everyone. Lean & Hungry’s shows are currently heard on public radio stations in 8 states and the District of Columbia, with an estimated audience of 42,000 listeners for each show.
Ms Hansen is currently the voice of NPR‘s broadcast funding credits, heard by 38 million people daily, serves as voice coach to other NPR on-air talent.
Ms Hansen has taught acting to children and adults of all ages from Shakespeare to musical theater to microphone and audition techniques. She has taught at universities and middle and high schools throughout the Washington metropolitan area. She coaches voice, dialects, and movement for individuals and professional theater companies.
Ms Hansen earned her MFA in Acting from Brandeis University, and has studied Alexander, Linklater, LeCoq, Stanislawski, Michael Checkhov, Meisner, Roy Hart, Suzuki, Viewpoints, and many other acting and movement techniques.
